TORONTO, Dec. 18, 2008 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX News Network) -- Maple Leaf Foods (TSX: MFI) today announced that, subject to court approvals in Saskatchewan, Quebec and Ontario, it has reached a settlement agreement with the principal counsel groups who launched class actions following a listeriosis outbreak that was linked to a limited number of products made at the Company's Bartor Road, Toronto facility. September 19, 2008 - After a detailed investigation, Rochon Genova LLP has today commenced a class action representing all persons in Canada who purchased and/or ingested meat products recalled by Maple Leaf Foods in August 2008. The claim, which was issued in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto alleges that Maple Leaf failed to ensure that its recalled meat products were safe for human consumption and would not cause illness or death. Two of the plaintiffs, Ronald Rose and Heather Dowling, consumed Maple Leaf meat products in August 2008 and became ill.
