Hydroxycut facing products liability suit in Canada

On Behalf of | Aug 15, 2017 | Products Liability |

Health Canada is urging consumers not to use the product Hydroxycut because of the number of adverse reactions reported. Although not authorized for sale in Ontario or the rest of Canada, consumers can still purchase the product. A products liability suit has been launched against the manufacturer of the product, Iovate Health Sciences Inc. of Oakville. Health Canada is monitoring the situation.

There have been several reports that Hydroxycut creates medical problems associated with the respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular systems. Health officials in both Canada and the United States are looking into the formulation of the product as well as its ingredients, recommended dosages or other issues that could cause toxicity; however, the product’s manufacturers have changed the formula many times over the years. Hydroxycut is taken as a diet supplement, marketed as aiding in weight loss, and is available over-the-counter in grocery stores and pharmacies in the U.S. as well as on-line.

Health Canada is in contact with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States and continues to release new information to Canadians. Hydroxycut products aren’t currently authorized for sale in Canada, but the products can still be purchased on-line. Those who believe they have been harmed by the product may have legal recourse.

Any Ontario resident, as well as anyone in Canada, who believes he or she has have been harmed by a product should seek legal counsel as soon as possible. Claimants need a lawyer in Canada who is well-versed in products liability law. Such a lawyer will instruct clients on how to best proceed.
