A lawsuit has been filed against a police officer in Ontario, and the allegations it makes could carry large ramifications. The suit is asking for around $2.4 million.
The whole thing revolves around an affair that two people had for about eight months. Eventually, the man decided to call things off, but the woman apparently did not want to do so. She kept trying to get back together with the man, sending him explicit pictures, text messages and gifts.
The woman was then caught by the man she was engaged to marry, but the suit claims she lied to him, telling him that the man was the one harassing her, and not the other way around. Because of that lie, the two then went to the police and filed a report.
As a result, the man and his wife were given criminal harassment charges, the suit says. Those charges did not last long when the evidence came to light, and they were dropped.
To make matters worse, the two families were neighbours. They decided to put up cameras on the outside of their property, which they could aim at the house next door.
When a dispute broke out, the police officer named in the suit came to the scene. He got an arrest warrant for the individuals involved and a police team stormed into their house. They claim that he either did this maliciously or negligently, and they say they were traumatized by it.
In complex cases like this, those involved must know all of the legal options they have.
