Update – December 2, 2013 – Zimmer

ROCHON | GENOVA LLP has commenced several individual actions on behalf of people who developed severe hip pain and other complications following their implant with the Zimmer Durom Cup.

The Durom Cup is an artificial joint socket used in total hip replacement surgery. It is part of a metal-on-metal hip implant system that was widely marketed to physicians and patients as providing greater range of motion and greater durability than traditional hip replacement prosthetic implant components. The Durom Cup was originally designed to bond to the patient’s hip bone, thereby keeping the cup in place.

The claims, however, allege that the Durom Cup fails to adhere to the bone as intended, and instead loosens and separates from the hip socket, causing the patient excruciating pain and potentially damaging the pelvic bone and surrounding muscle. Many of these individuals have required invasive revision surgeries to remove and replace their Durom Cup.
