Rochon Genova LLP is seeking to hire 1 or 2 first and/or second year law students for the summer of 2019.

Our firm is a progressive litigation boutique in downtown Toronto specializing in class actions, complex litigation and personal injury litigation. Our lawyers regularly appear before trial and appellate courts in Ontario and other provinces and have appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada on ground-breaking cases.

Our summer program will provide students with exposure to every aspect of litigation. Students will work alongside lawyers and will assist in the preparation of court documents, conduct research and attend motions, mediations, discoveries, trials and appeals.

The successful candidate will be an effective team player with a demonstrated interest in advocacy and litigation, a strong academic record and excellent research and writing skills.

Experienced Litigation Law Clerk or Paralegal - Civil Sexual Abuse Litigation Practice

If you are passionate about advocacy on behalf survivors of sexualized misconduct and want to join one of the pioneers in this field, Rochon Genova LLP has a rare opportunity for you.

We are currently seeking a litigation law clerk or paralegal to work in Susan Vella's Civil Sexual Assault and Institutional Abuse practice group. Recognized as one of Canada's foremost practitioners in the area of civil sexual assault and misconduct and institutional abuse, Ms. Vella has been representing survivors of sexualized misconduct in their quest for justice for 30 years. You will be joining an experienced team of like-minded advocates and professionals.

The successful candidate will meet the following minimum qualifications:

· minimum of five (5) years of predominantly plaintiff side personal injury (tort, not accident benefits) experience;

· member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario or an accredited paralegal;

· skills commensurate with a mid or senior level independent working litigation law clerk or paralegal, comfortable working in a small firm setting;

· experience working with survivors of sexualized misconduct is an asset;

· strong computer skills (in particular, in relation to Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, PC Law and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC); and

· strong service approach with exceptional oral and written communication skills, and an ability to work respectfully with clients and difficult subject matter.

The main responsibilities of this position include:

· extensive contact with clients, professional colleagues, government agencies and records holders;

· independently managing and discharging all law clerk and file management duties from intake to trial, including trial preparation (e.g.: witness coordination, preparation of trial notices, joint books of documents and authorities);

· preparation of affidavits of documents, ordering and reviewing records, preparing summaries of transcripts of examination for discovery and analysis of records, undertakings and refusals;

· preparation of simple motion materials including basic affidavits; and

· mediation and pre-trial preparation including special damages, third party obligations, subrogated claims and assessable disbursements.
